Looking for a versatile truck that will solve all your hauling and towing problems? Consider a RAM. Now that RAM is a separate brand after parting ways with Dodge, they’re determined to design the best pickups in the US. Let’s explore the top three models for 2020/2021!
RAM 1500
The RAM 1500 went through some changes, mostly in the grille, which is now bigger than ever. This truck comes with the largest standard wheels and tires on a light-duty pickup, with the Sport model coming with 20-inch alloy wheels.
The RAM 1500 comes with three engine options, all of them with automatic 8-gear transmission. It also comes with three cab options, including crew, regular and quad cabs. This model comes in six trims including: 1
- Limited – Top-of-the-line everything, including a genuine wooden steering wheel and a 12-inch display
- Laramie Longhorn – Chrome side steps, blind spot monitoring, and Uconnect 4C with navigation
- Rebel – Trail-ready trim including chrome bumpers, front skid plates, and off-road wheel flares
- Laramie – Bigger in-cabin comfort, latest technology, and upgraded leather seats
- Big Horn – The Tradesman, with chrome bumpers, fog lamps, cloth seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Tradesman – Six passenger seats, black bumpers, rear bumper steps, and blind-spot monitoring
2020 Updates
The latest RAM 1500 went through some minor changes in 2020 because the 2019 model changed the look entirely. The biggest change was the EcoDiesel V6 engine, which runs on a more powerful turbocharger. Another significant introduction was the option of a 60/40 split tailgate, as well as an optional centre step attached to the bumper to make climbing in and out of the bed easier.
2020 also brought the black-trimmed Limited Night Edition that includes black exterior accents, all-black wheels, high-end black seats and interior accents, and a top-of-the-line command centre.
Pros:
- Powerful, award-winning workhorse of a truck
- Models include or are available with lots of high tech, including infotainment
- Available as a mild hybrid
- Spacious and quiet cabin
Cons:
- Sluggish steering when loaded
- Performance off-road could be better
- Fully loaded models get quite pricey
RAM 2500
The RAM 2500 Heavy Duty went through several changes this year, including an upgraded interior, tougher powertrains, and a new style to match the 1500 model.
This truck is available with multiple configurations such as regular and crew cab, with an extra available trim, and 4×4 wheel drive only on the Mega Cab. The 2500 model has a 6.4L Hemi V8 that comes with the base model, and a powerful 6.7L turbo diesel, making it the perfect choice for customers who want to move some serious cargo.
The trims are almost the same as the 1500 with the omission of the Rebel package and the addition of the Power Wagon trim, which is designed for exceptional performance off-road. Thanks to RAM’s innovative Articulink suspension, the RAM 2500 is the most capable pickup truck for off-road drives.
2020 Updates
The new RAM 2500 experienced small changes for 2020/2021. RAM’s safety measures are now more complete, though they are not standard in base models. You can get park assist, blind spot monitoring and lane sense on any 2500 trim.
Pros:
- Redesigned interior
- Unique off-road Power Wagon option
- Increased towing capacity
Cons:
- Small rear seat
RAM 3500
The RAM 3500 Heavy Duty is for serious hauling with a towing capacity of up to 5,402 kg. The 3500 and the 2500 models are paired together in the RAM Truck lineup so they have the same trims, including the Power Wagon for off-road driving. 2
When it comes to MPG ranges, the 6.7L goes around 16 mpg in mixed driving and the 6.8L V8 manages 12 mpg. All 3500 models come with 32-gallon tanks, but there is a 50-gallon tank option available on the Crew Cab model.
2020 Updates
3500 and 2500 models are paired in the lineup, so they underwent many of the same changes. The Night Edition package is available on the Power Wagon trim only.
Pros:
- Smooth driving
- Diesel engine with 1,000 pound-feet of torque
- Large, comfortable interior
Cons:
- May be too big for some people
